I grew up reading comics starring Garfield, Odie and Jon as my brother enjoyed them and they were a good help when learning to read as the pictures aided so much and it was easy to enjoy. When I heard that they were making a live action film (with some animation to it) I was rather excited, especially when I heard that Bill Murray was going to be in it (I loved Ghostbusters so was keen to see him in a movie that I might enjoy a bit more than some of his others). Watching the trailer my mum and I ended up renting it out on DVD as we weren't 100% sure about it.

The acting is good and everyone is convincing though I do feel that the real star of this movie has to be Odie, not only is he a real dog but he is so darn gorgeous! LOL Icon Murray did a good job with the voice acting but there were just some moments that didn't 'gel' and whilst I loved it the first time around I just didn't enjoy it the next time, or the next or the next. I did end up owning it as it came as part of a triple pack (three for $20 versus each one on it's own for a total of $60!) and my three kids rather enjoy it, watching it now and again but not a fantastic movie like I would have hoped.

I think everyone would have memories of Garfield the lazy, talking, lasagne eating cat from their childhood. The original comic book television episodes certainly featured in my childhood. This movie certainly brings the character Garfield to life for a new generation of kids while still keeping some of his original character and charm.

I enjoyed this movie it did bring back memories of the Garfield I remembered from when I was younger. The animation is great, I really enjoyed seeing Garfield reinvented with all the modern digital imagery. I like how John and the other humans are actual characters not animations I love the mix between animation and reality I think it adds excitement for children.

As always Garfield is a lazy, lasagne eating cat with no worries until much to Garfield's disgust John brings home a new animal Odie the dog. However when Odie is abducted Garfield must do everything he can to find Odie and bring him back to where he belongs. A tale of friendship, family, and loyalty as Garfield learns he can share John. The movie has great music and plenty of moments that will have you in fits of laughter a must for Garfield fans and a great introduction to Garfield for those who have never met this fat cat before.

He's back, that fat lasagne-eating cat with the smug attitude and the carpet-combing belly, the one, the only, Garfield. If you have read any of the Jim Davis comic strips or cartoon books, you'll know all about Garfield.

So this movie will surprise you. The highlights: Bill Murray really is the voice of Garfield. They hit on the perfect person for this character. And the fellow they chose to play Jon (Brekin Meyer) actually does a very good job, for a love-sick doofus trying to cope with a cat who somehow manages to do a flying cannon-ball from across the room to wake him up every morning.

My son LOVED this movie, especially when Garfield and Odie dance on the porch. He was in histerics for that whole scene, but soon got bored after that. So did I. Maybe I just don't get the humour so subtly hidden that only an American can see it, but this movie just didn't seem to be worth the pricetag. A good deal when it hits the bargain bin, but full-retail... nah.

Overall, My son is glad I got it. It became his all-time favourite, for all of 1 weekend. Strange kid. :)
