In the film, Ray (Skarsgård), Claire (Riseborough) and their seven-year-old daughter, Zoe, are an average American family in Kingsville, North Carolina - except they have existed in a bomb shelter since escaping a day of devastation that changed everything.

For 301 days, they have transformed their cement prison into a home, holding on to memories of the past and hope for a normal life someday. And for 301 days, the family has eluded what looms above the surface - the heavy breathing and booming footsteps that punctuate the night, threatening their fragile existence. All the while, the family has managed to stay hidden.

Until now.

Now their safe haven has been breached... and something is coming for them.

This is a rather hard movie to review because I don't want to give too much away. It is definitely worth a watch as it has a lot of suspense and for most of the movie you are wandering what is going on. Like the norm in most movies today you get flash backs as to what happened in the past. With this movie it works and it really helps. (Although I wish there were more flash backs and at a faster rate but I guess in retrospect it makes it more suspenseful as it slowly leads up to the truth.)

For most of the movie it is just the three family members and it is really watchable. They are in a confined space and although I found the child Zoe to be rather annoying the family unit is tight and being locked up for so long it would be tough. It has a low end budget feel but it still feels like there is still some money invested in it.

Although I really enjoyed the movie and the twist at the end is fantastic. I seriously did not see that coming. I don't think I could watch again, just because I now know the final outcome. It is definitely slow in areas which does help add to the tension. I don't think it should be classed as a horror as there is no real gore but more in the thriller catagory. But it is so refreshing to watch a movie like this and really not see/guess the ending.
