Last year I was lucky enough to review the first volume to this epic saga. Although I did not totally love it I have always wanted to know what happend. So after lending my mother the DVD to which she became obsessed with it - my curiousity got the best of me and I ended up buying online as could not buy locally as had an R18 rating.

First up if you are not a fan of sex you really should miss this series as basically that is all that happens in the first couple of episodes and the last couple. Ok technically 'sex' is not the right word for what happens in the last couple and is rather brutal and in your face but I guess rape always is. Except I was not readily prepared for who the victim was and how he would react. I had heard from friends about it but it was still sickening to see. The acting is fantastic and so convincing that even Claire has grown on me so much so I really enjoyed this season.

With only eight episdoes to watch unfortunately it was not as faced paced as I was hoping for and lost some of the momentum half way through. I found a couple of the middle episodes to be boring and a tad over done. Finding Jamie took way to long and the singing episode with Claire and Murtagh just got silly. Maybe the book makes it more believable because watching it just became tedious. Beyond that a really enjoyable show.

My husband and I really enjoyed the opening credits as each time it changed and would show you something completely random but yet would turn out relevant to the episode. We both enjoyed trying to 'crack the code'.

One thing I have to mention is I am amazed how far the 'actors' go to play their part. After Jamies sister gave birth and left the baby who breasts became engorged and you actually got to witness her reliefing the tention and see the milk flowing. To see that so visually I have to take my hats off to them or with Jamie and the nail or the sex/rape scenes all actors are so completely and utterly entuned with their role that they do whatever is necessary for the character. You very rarely see this sort of commitment in a show and it is really inspiring and gives it that sense of truth that it actually could of really happened.

It is a series that has blown me away. It is honest, brutal, sadistic, funny and charming, it pulls at your heart strings and leaves you wanting more. You hate the baddies with a passion, in this case the Brittish and you are routing for the underdogs the Scots. You never know what will happen next and although you are wanting everyone to live that happily ever after life you know that they never will. I need to know what will happen next so I am going to just bite the bullet and read the books as the next season is still in the making. definitely worth viewing.
