The timing of reviewing these brownies was fantastic as my sister flew in from Melbourne this week and as she can't eat wheat products, this seemed the perfect thing to bring out at afternoon tea time. I'd kept them in the freezer until then, and then after thawing on the bench for a short time, they were ready to serve. Of course a got a few opinions in the process...

People loved the bite sized pieces - it meant there was enough for our large group to all have a taste and it suited the rich chocolate nature of a brownie too. They had a nice dark chocolate feel to them, but not excessively dark. They had some lovely texture by way of chocolate lumps, but it was noted that even more of these would have been nice. They were definitely beautifully moist - a must for chocolate brownie. Even my Miss 7 who isn't a fan of sweet things, enjoyed this.

I honestly wouldn't have known these were gluten free and I also noted they were nut free (may contain traces though) as nuts is something I watch out for in gluten free products (and also in brownies in general). I could happily serve these to a large group of people and cater for intolerances but also please those who don't have to avoid certain foods.

Everyone enjoyed these and I see the price as being comparable to a pack of chocolate biscuits, but for a far superior product - which you could easily pass off as being home made too. I'd consider buying these again for sure... especially if my sister comes to visit again!

Brownies have always been a favourite for me, both in slice, cake and cookie forms, so trying this seemed to be an interesting opportunity for me to try a new twist on something I loved. I personally found this to be a worthwhile experience, as the brownie was really nice, and it was certainly a new twist on things. The product had an unusual feel to it, it was a bit like a slightly crusty, chocolate-flavoured piece of bread, but it was pulled off in a way that really worked.

To be honest, I'm not sure where I stand on Gluten-Free products, I mean it's a great idea to create products that can be enjoyed by those who have a gluten intolerance, or those who just don't like eating gluten in general. The big worry comes in a similar form of the so-called "Fat Free" products, they may have reduced the fat/gluten content, but you have to wonder what kind of stuff they have added to replace it, and how it may be worse than what it was replacing.

As far as I could tell, though, there was nothing wrong with this particular product, I just get a bit suspicious sometimes is all I'm saying. Pokey Tongue Icon The product still had a very rich flavour, and was rather tasty. While I did say it was a bit like bread, I only meant that is was a bit light and airy, much like bread, but it was still firm, and bore a fair resemblance to the type of brownie I am used to. That being said, I am used to the less airy types, like the brownie cubes they sell at Domino's, the one that come with the rich chocolate sauce and come coated with some type of sugar I think. *drools*

Overall, I would say that this was a very pleasant product, and considering it was gluten free, I wouldn't say that made any big difference, or least no negative one. Smile Icon I think that the price of the product is very reasonable, it is certainly very affordable, but it still matched up with the value of the product itself. The portion size was a bit small, but that's just me, I am a bottomless pit at my age, after all! LOL Icon Long story short: awesome product, very impressed, and overall quite happy with what I got.

I wasn't sure about reviewing these as I make a pretty good brownie, if I must say so myself, and often store bought brownie is dry and not particularly nice. With a household of coeliacs however I am always on the hunt for snacks and easy picnic items. Those that are gluten free will know that with these gluten free snacks comes a hefty grocery bill. I must confess I had guessed that this pottle would be about $4.80 or more. To see that the RRP is $3.50 has automatically made this a 10/10, when I take that price though and look at the ingredients and talk about the taste that's when it gets interesting.

I am constantly trying to stay away from refined sugars and flours etc but to be honest when it comes to chocolate brownie you can't really "health" it up and have it taste divine. The ingredients on these brownies are as you would expect sugar, compound chocolate, egg, oil, tapioca, potato, maize and rice flours, cocoa, butter, milk, raising agents, stabilisers, maltodextrin and natural flavours. in the wider scheme of nutrition this actually isn't too different to the ingredients I would use so I am happy to give this to my children as treat.

When it comes to taste well in a word "divine". I snuck a few pieces myself and had to stop myself as these perfect portion size bites were moist and scrumptious. gooey chocolate bits and the perfect texture. I put them in the fridge to give the kids for dessert the next night button my horror found hubby had almost devoured the container as they were to good to stop eating! The children got a "bite" each for pudding and all claimed it to be almost as good as mine (I think they were just being nice to spare my feelings...) and wanted know when I would buy some more.

I like the pottle as this stops them getting too broken up and I like that the pottle recloses so if you can resist eating them all at once you can save some for later! They are also the perfect size to send with the kids to a friends for afternoon tea and would last well in the school bag.

I have to say I have no photos of these as they were too yummy to last for a photo session....

These are surprisingly good and at $3.50 a pottle great value for a gluten free treat. I can definitely recommend them and it you are tired of dry gluten free products then definitely try these.

Thanks very much Original Foods as you have a new customer. ^Smile Icon

I really like chocolate brownies, however I'm really not that great at making them, so when I am feeling like a chocolate brownie it's more often an item that I have to go out and buy. With so many varieties out in the stores I have to be honest and say I am yet to find one that I really do like, as most tend to be very dry and taste as though they've been sitting in store for days. Not being gluten free, I was a bit sceptical about requesting these brownies, as I have tried several gluten free products in the past which I found to be horrid!

These brownies like all of the other products in the Bites range come in a handy resealable, plastic tub. It has a clear plastic lid which makes it easy to see the yummy product in which it contains, great marketing tool as its hard to resist something that looks so delicious especially when cut into little pieces like these brownie bites. There is a slip on cardboard sleeve that pops over the plastic tub which tells you everything you need to know about these such as that they are gluten free, and that they contain no added colours or preservatives.

I am pleased to say I was extremely impressed by both the taste and texture of these brownies, they are without a doubt the best gluten free baked product I have ever tasted, and to be fair if I had not of read the packet which states they are a gluten free product well I don't think I would have known any differently, the only thing that suggested that these were gluten free to me was the slightest powdery after taste I got when eating these brownies. They were deliciously fudgey, gooey and chocolaty and had a few nice chunks of chocolate in each mouthful. To do a fair taste test on a gluten free product I decided to give half the tub of brownies to a friend who is gluten free, she straight away told me how delicious she thought the brownies were and also said that they did not taste like a gluten free product! She even said that they were the best gluten free brownie she has had.

While I probably wouldn't rush out to buy these myself over the rest of the Bites range, I would certainly buy these to have on hand for when I get gluten free visitors and will recommend these to those I know who have gluten free diets. Well done to the company for making an amazing gluten free product that doesn't taste gluten free and for such a great price!

Brownies are hit-and-miss with me, they just seem to vary so much it's hard for me to benchmark them. Sometimes I come across a real hidden gem, sometimes I come across something so diabolical I wonder whether I'm getting Punk'd of the maker has malfunctioning taste buds and used drain cleaner instead of melted butter or something.

While far from being in the 'diabolical' category, I regret to say these were not to my taste. That said, I am not a fan of the gluten-free flour mixes that are often used to replace wheat flour. They don't behave the same way, they don't taste the same, and often the mixes can be used inappropriately - a mix that is good in scones won't work in a chocolate cake for example.

When I decided to try these ones, I didn't register the whole 'gluten free' aspect, otherwise I would have been better prepared for the difference and not so shocked at the results. After eating 2 or 3 bites I had to put them away and allow my taste buds to readjust again. A few days later, ready and prepared for the taste variance, I had another go and found them a lot more tolerable... but that's as charitable as I can be.

Offering a taste to a neighbour who has chosen to adopt a GF diet for 6 months to see if it suits her, the feedback was more positive. "Tastes way better than burnt cardboard, so it's a good one." was her comment, and she gladly took the remainder off my hands to snack on while we chatted about other topics. By the time she had finished the container, she was convinced she was going to be buying more, so clearly the negative issues lay with me, not the product.

Overall, not my thing at all, but according to someone who is fairly new to a GF diet, these are actually quite good when compared to many GF baked goods. Mixed results on this, so I would be more likely to say "try them and judge for yourself, but they seem to be worth a shot."
