We signed up for a free months trial with Quickfilx, and we found on it both Pitch Black and it's sequel The Chronicles of Riddick. I ended up watching them due to my husband wanting a trip down memory lane. I had seen the last half hour of this movie several times, so this was my first time watching the whole thing.

The plot for this was ok, nothing special and leaves me wondering just why they thought a third instalment would be be a good thing. A bounty has been put on Riddick's head, and on his way to freedom he also has to battle a nasty religious sect that is basically attempting to take over the known universe.

The special effects weren't anything great, but they were an improvement on the Pitch Black film. There was a lot of fighting going on in the film, a few were quite decent and then others were recycled over and over again. The acting wasn't halfway bad, but that being said their wasn't a lot of acting required as all the characters were pretty much clones.

I'm in no rush to watch this again nor own it, it wasn't the worst that I've seen but I'm not enthused about the next film.

I have to agree. Just because the special effects are possible and easy to achieve, doesn't automatically mean we should be substituting them for story line.

I don't think I will be adding this to my collection.

Well, this one will be short but not too sweet.

Pitch Black was kinda funky. Dark Fury (animated Chronicles of Riddick series movie) was also kinda cool, but this one was quite disappointing really.

The special effects were top-notch, but that is actually quite normal these days. The toys grow ever bigger, ever smarter, and ever easier to use, so sad spfx are just not on the market any more.

Overall... I think I wasted my money. I plan to get Pitch Black on DVD, but only because I liked the aliens. I won't be getting this on DVD unless it drops below $15 I think. $10 by preference.
