Devine Intervention product reviews

There is a great legend of the guardian angel who traveled across time and space for the human girl he loved, slaying those who would threaten her with a gleaming sword made of heavenly light.

This is not that story.

This book was not at all what I expected it to be...well the old saying of never judge a book by it's cover definitely relates to this book! I had already made up my mind in the first chapter that the main charter Heidi must die somewhere in the book and walk into Heaven with her guardian angel...well no.

I did find it easy to relate to Heidi....being somewhat of an outcast during her teenage years and not fitting in with the in-crowd and not really caring! Having a best friend that you can do anything with and not be judged! This would be a great book for any teenage girl or even pre-teen girls.

I am a real romantic at heart and love it when there are happy endings, the guy gets the girl...the girl gets the guy...they live happily ever after. The authors definition of what Heaven is and how Heaven works is lovely and I hope her perception of Heaven is close to being right because it sounds lovely! The characters Gabe and Xavier add a flavour of humour to the storyline and sound like they are a hoot.

The book is very sturdy being hard backed the font is the perfect size to make for easy reading. Having pages of The Guardian Angel's Handbook Soul Rehab Edition throughout the book adds another funny moment where I couldn't help but laugh out loud sometimes at the rules that Jerome was meant to know if he had only read the handbook. (Typical teenage boy/man thinking why do they have to bother with rules or instructions!) I am not into the whole church scene and embracing God etc. so having a book that isn't that serious is great and kept me reading to the end.

I liked how the chapters within the book focused on Heidi and then Jerome and back to Heidi, Jerome etc....giving me little bits of information about their background etc to make the book make sense in the end. It was nail biting towards to end and I couldn't put the book down, I had my fingers crossed for a happy ending but the book gave nothing away until the very last page. Reading this book was fun and I can happily recommend it 100%...a nice way to waste a few hours.

I come from a churchy background, so I picked this up with an open mind and a idea of faith, Heaven and God. The story splits between Helen, a troubled girl who has grown up with this weird and funny voice in her head and Jerome - that voice. I found that when I sat down to read a chapter, I devoured the words very quickly and before I knew it I was well into the book. This is a good sign for me because if I struggle through the first 30 pages then its not going to be a finisher.

I really liked the backdrop of the story. The world that Brockenbrough builds is a really interesting one. You get some background about Heaven, and Angels. You get random pages of the Guardian Angels rulebook which make for funny reading. I love that you skip between Jerome and Helen, and get to see how each feels about the other and about their world as well.

I really felt that if religion was not your interest area then this might not appeal to you. However, I was describing the book to a friend recently and they were quite interested despite not following organised religion. They felt that the setting was clever and they liked the way the guardian angel's voice is treated in Helen's reality. $26 is quite pricey for a novel, but it is hardcover which is usually where the cost goes into.

Written by P.J. Tracy

Product image for Snow BlindWhen the first snow falls in Minneapolis, the whole community takes part in a carnival of innocent fun. By noon, the park is full of snowmen.

But when the snow melts, it becomes graphically obvious that somebody's fun wasn't entirely innocent...

Two bodies are found inside the snowmen, and a day later, in a rural northern county, rookie sheriff Iris Rikker makes a similar discovery. Soon Detectives Gino and Magozzi are ... more...
