Always a fan of anything that exercises the ol' grey matter, I was drawn to this book for it's 'quick break' appeal. Sitting at the bus stop waiting for the 10.15? Pull this out of your bag and have a quick shot at a Kakuro puzzle. Waiting for the kids outside the school? Grab this book and flick through to your next Find-a-Word.

I was personally quite taken with the image-based puzzles and the Find-a-Words as they appeal strongly to my visually-oriented thought style, but the number-based puzzles such as Sudoku and Kakuro also caught my attention, as maths used to be one of my strong points in my youth, and it never hurts to keep your hand in, as it were.

I did find it a little off-putting that the answer was on the back of the same page as the puzzle, because it meant that I had to solve each one before jumping on to the next, instead of getting a good run and solving 5 or 6 in a row then going to the back to check my answers... but I can see the logic behind the method used, even if I don't particularly like it much myself.

Overall, this was quite a nifty little puzzle book, a good buy for anyone wanting to explore a range of puzzle styles without having to buy a number of books. You can see what type you are good at and enjoy, then go out and find books targetted more for those styles... making this a great starting gambit and sampler for those who are new to stretching the brainstuff to it's limits.

Those who remained coveted any living creature, and for people who couldn't afford one, companies built incredibly realistic simulacrae: horses, birds, cats, sheep... They even built humans.

Emigrees to Mars received androids so sophisticated it was impossible to tell them from true men or women. Fearful of the havoc ... more...
